The July 2016 Bar Exam: Repeat UBE Bar Exam Takers and The UBE Crying Game

As we close in on October, a number of UBE states show continued pass-rate declines, especially for the repeat taker.

Approximately 23 states have released July bar exam results, 18 of the states are UBE/MEE states. Among them, Washington, Missouri, North Dakota, Oregon and Iowa each saw a decline in their overall pass rates. Iowa’s pass rate dropped 15 percent—the largest reported decline thus far.

The repeat bar exam pass rate was even worse. Alabama’s repeat taker pass rate was 24.8%. In Iowa, the repeat taker pass rate was 29% and 0 for 3^rd time takers. In Missouri, the repeat bar exam taker pass rate was 41% for 2^nd time takers, and a 36% pass rate for 3+ takers.  . Oregon’s repeat taker pass rate was 43%.

These weak results for the UBE and its repeat takers  do not bode well for the jurisdictions that haven’t yet released scores, like Washington, DC or New York.
