The February 2016 Bar Exam: MBE Scores and the New Reality

The MBE scores have been systematically lower since the NCBE has made its changes.

If you have read The MBE & UBE Testing Institute tweets and blogs, you know that the average score on the MBE on the July bar exam fell 1.6 points from the previous year, reaching its lowest level since 1988, according to data provided by the National Conference of Bar Examiners. The mean score on the July bar exam was 139.9, down from 141.5 in July 2014.

In speaking with students, they feel the test is harder because this is the first July when Civil Procedure has been tested in “mass” numbers.  The NCBE, however, disputes this assessment, saying that the students did poorly across the board in all 7 subjects.

We do know that performance on the bar exam has continued to dip down to levels we have never seen and it appears that this is not an aberration, but a new realty.

Look at your own state scores.  Most states have also dipped below their July 2014 numbers, mainly because of the MBE. The repeat takers fare even worse.  That 1.5 point variance is the difference between pass and fail for some repeat takers.

The reality is that  you must pass the bar exam.  The MBE & UBE Testing Institute can help you succeed and guide you through the areas that will help you pass the bar exam and begin your life as a lawyer.  Don’t wait until you take the bar 2 or 3 or even 5 times – get help now and get the bar exam behind you.

The February 2016 Bar Exam: 4 Weeks until the Florida Bar Exam Results

The wait is almost over. There are now only 4 weeks left until the Florida bar exam results will be released. Try to relax – your results are beyond your control now. The MBE & UBE Testing Institute will release the results as soon as we get them.

As we can see, the Florida bar exam is changing.  In the last 3 bar cycles we have gotten issues that normally only appear in the multiple choice sections.  3 bar cycles ago we had a little wills thrown in, and the last two bar cycles we have gotten criminal law and criminal procedure.

The MBE & UBE Testing Institute will be conducting a  Florida Substantive Subjects and Writing Essay Seminar after the bar exam results have been released and prior to the July 2016 bar exam. This all day intensive seminar is for first time bar takers, repeat bar takers, foreign educated lawyers and any person looking to improve on his/her Florida essays for the Florida Bar Examination. This seminar will address writing and substantive subjects on the exam. “Special” emphasis will be placed on the newly added substantive essay subjects. The Seminar will be conducted by multiple law professors who have taught in several Florida law schools on the Florida bar exam.

The D.C. UBE Bar Exam and How it Affects the New York UBE Bar Exam

Just like in New York, Washington, D.C, has adopted the UBE effective this bar cycle, July 2016.  And like New York, the passing score is 266.

That means that if you take the UBE in New York or in D.C. this July and you pass with 266, you can waive into that other state.  So you can actually get admitted to two east coast states in one bar exam cycle.  Sounds good, doesn’t it.  Once you set up your practice, you can take the train from New York to D.C. and back again.  The possibilities are endless with a dual practice.
