2 Weeks Until the Florida Bar Exam Results Are Released

Is the Bar Exam More Difficult?

The July 2014 bar exam results nationwide was overall the lowest in the last ten years.  Many states even went down by over 10% points; Idaho, from 80% to 65%, Iowa from 92% to 81%, Oregon from 75% to 65%, Tennessee from 78% to 60%, and Texas, 82% to 71%.

This overall decline may be the new reality or may be a future trend.

West Virginia’s Low Bar Exam Results for Repeat Bar Takers

For the West Virginia bar exam, the bar taker must score a combined scaled score of 270.  However, repeat bar exam takers, since 2007, on the West Virginia bar exam has averaged a low of 53%.  In light of this information, The MBE Testing Institute is currently offering a MBE tutorial program for West Virginia’s repeat bar takers.

North Carolina’s bar exam results are one of the first states to come out.  The passing score for the North Carolina Bar Exam is 350 points.  The MBE, which is weighted at 40%, and the North Carolina essays, which is weighted at 60%, are combined to determine if the applicant has achieved a passing score.

The Illinois Bar Exam Results

We know that the Illinois bar exam results come out around April 1^st, which is about a week away.  However, the minimum passing score on the Illinois bar exam will increase beginning with the July 2015 bar exam.

The current minimum passing score is a combined written and MBE score of 264.  Effective for the July 2015 bar exam, the minimum passing score will be a combined written and MBE score of 268.  The passing score will increase by 4 points for July 2015.  .

In other words, Illinois is making it harder for their Illinois students to achieve a passing score.  Hit hardest is always the repeat taker – because they need any point they can squeeze out of the exam.  4 extra points for July 2015 bar exam is no easy task.  The MBE Testing Institute may be able to help those repeat takers get the extra points for passing.
