The New York Bar Exam and Foreign Educated Lawyers’ Statistics

There was a record number of foreign educated candidates sitting for the bar exam in July 2018. This accounts for 33% of all candidates who sat for the July exam.

The New York bar exam results for July 2018 indicated that foreign educated lawyers passed at a first time rate of 50% and that all foreign educated lawyers passed at a 41% rate. These pass rates were a 7% drop from July 2017 when 57% of first time takers failed the bar exam, and all foreign educated lawyers passed at a 48%.

As can be seen, the pass rate is dismal for foreign educated lawyers. That’s why, before sitting for a bar exam, foreign educated lawyers need an MBE & UBE Testing Institute bar tutor. The New York Bar Exam Results Have Been Released and the Pass Rate Decreased Significantly

The New York bar exam results for July 2018 are now out, as well as the statistics. With the MBE at a 34-year low, New York’s bar exam results declined a whopping 5% from last year.

New York had a 63% overall pass rate, a 5% decrease from last year’s 68% pass rate.

For first time takers the pass rate was 83% for all ABA graduates, down from 86% last year. The all first time takers’ pass rate was 74%, decreasing from a high of 78% last year, which included the foreign educated lawyers.

The foreign educated attorneys pass rate fell a significant 7%.  The foreign educated first time taker pass rate was 50%, a decrease from 57% last year and the overall pass rate for foreign educated was 41%, a decrease from 48% overall last year. A big fall from last year.

There is No Spring Enrollment for Thomas Jefferson School of Law as it Prepares to Lose Accreditation

In an effort to retain its ABA accreditation, Thomas Jefferson School of Law will not enroll new students for the spring 2019 semester. Interim Dean Keller said the move brings Thomas Jefferson in line with many other law schools, which only admit new students in the fall semester.

Thomas Jefferson was placed on probation a year ago for being out of compliance with accreditation standards.

The school announced in May that it was vacating its $90 million, 7-year-old campus for rented space in a downtown office building, a move that saves Thomas Jefferson a significant amount of money, although the new space has remained under construction during the fall semester.

Thomas Jefferson is planning for the possibility that the ABA will yank its accreditation.  Thomas Jefferson has applied to become a California-accredited law school, which would enable graduates to sit for the bar there even if it loses ABA accreditation. The State Bar of California’s Committee of Bar Examines will consider the school’s application on Friday. Thomas Jefferson has asked the committee to fast-track its application in light of its ABA accreditation issues.

MBE Scores Sink to 34-Year Low, Resulting in Lower Pass Rates, Especially for Repeat Takers

The average score on the MBE hit a recent low in February, and now the average for the July 2018 test has dropped more than two points to the lowest figure since 1984.

The NCBE announced that the average score on the MBE in July fell 2.2 points to 139.5.  The 2.2-point drop in the July 2018 average MBE score comes on the heels of a 10-year low for the February 2018 exam. That average MBE score fell 1.3 points, to 132.8.

That’s just slightly higher than 1984’s MBE average of 139.21. The average MBE score suggests that pass rates will fall, or at least not improve, for July 2018 results. This is especially true for repeat taker pass rates.  Alabama’s repeat taker rate was only 14%, Pennsylvania’s repeat taker pass rate for 3 time takers was 26%, 4th time takers were 21%,  Colorado’s repeat taker rate was 28%. The drop on the MBE score has hurt repeat takers the most.

Puerto Rico Law graduates taking the Florida Bar Exam: Enroll in The MBE & UBE Testing Institute Bar Exam Review Course

We know that there are many students who graduate from law schools in Puerto Rico who sit for the Florida bar exam.  Passing the Florida, bar exam is hard enough, especially when English may be your second language or the subject matter has yet to be learned.
